CPR AND FIRST AID CLASSES

Everyone should have the proper training on how to handle basic medical emergencies and injuries.  Please see below for the training classes that we offer.

Adult and Pediatric First Aid / CPR / AED
Would you know what to do in the event a loved one or neighbor collapsed in respiratory or cardiac arrest? Ever notice the AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillation) hanging in supermarkets, airports and other locations and wondered how to use them? CPR is an important skill that all citizens should be trained in and it could potentially save the life of a loved one or another individual.

This course will prepare you to recognize and care for a variety of first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants and meets OSHA/workplace requirements. Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a certificate for Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years.

Basic Life Support/BLS for Healthcare Professionals
The American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support (BLS) training reinforces healthcare professionals understanding of the importance of early CPR and defibrillation, performing basic steps CPR relieving choking, using an AED, and the role of each link in the chain of survival.

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

We offer classes on CPR and First Aid through the American Heart Association.   If you are a resident who wishes to take the class we can provide it to you at no charge.  You can see what classes are coming up by going to Training Opportunities and clicking on the class listing for more information.  If you do not see any class listings that meet your needs or you wish to schedule a class for a group please contact us.  Harwinton Ambulance provides two types of CPR classes, depending on your needs.

Course content includes General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies. Optional modules include CPR and AED, and Environmental Emergencies. The American Heart Association First aid & CPR Course meets all EMSA and OSHA as required for Childcare workers.   Basic classes run from 9am - 3pm (please check with each specific class)Would you know what to do in the event a loved one or neighbor collapsed in respiratory or cardiac arrest? Ever notice the AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillation) hanging in supermarkets, airports and other locations and wondered how to use them? HEARTSafe Community Status
We are currently pursuing the goal of making Harwinton a “HEARTSafe Community” registered through the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health.  We can only achieve this goal with assistance from the members of our community.  For a community our size we need to meet the following goals to reach this status:

•    A minimum of 6 AED installations in public locations (In Progress)
      o Harwinton Consolidated School (Installed)
      o Town Hall (Pending Installation)
      o Library (Pending Installation)
o Town Recreation Fields (HYSA) (Installed)
      o Senior Center (Pending Installation)
o Indoor Sports Complex (Potential Installation)
•    Advanced Life Support Ambulance (Complete)

•    First Responders with AEDs (Complete)

•    A minimum of 30 citizens certified in CPR from an accredited Instructor (Pending)

As you can see we are in the process of finalizing the items we need to achieve this goal.  Right now we need to train 30 citizens in CPR to finish the process. Click here for to view a public service announcement from the DPH on HEARTSafe Communities
