Since 1963 the Harwinton Ambulance Association has provided Emergency Medical Services for our community. The last 47 years has seen amazing improvements in pre-hospital emergency care both at a national level and locally. When our service was originally formed, it was simply to “grab and go”. Simply put, the goal was to get the patient and transport them as quickly as possible to the nearest hospital for treatment with only minimal care in the field.
Today’s ambulances, equipment, and associated emergency medical training allow us to further our goal of saving lives. We can now implement advanced procedures such as administering intravenous fluids, establishing airways, and practice other life saving techniques. It is important, however, that with all of our advanced training and technology that we do not forget where we came from.
A detailed history of the Harwinton Ambulance Association is currently under construction. If any residents or past members would like to contribute information or pictures please let us know.
